Jon Torerk, CSCS

Born in Bangkok Thailand and a former NYC resident, Jon Torerk is the CEO and founder of BioMechanix Strength and Conditioning Clinic. He has an extensive background in exercise physiology, kinesiology, strength training, periodization, functional and corrective training, and has been a practicing Strength and Conditioning Coach since 1999.  Prior to moving to Los Angeles he was the Assistant Director of Training at a prominent NYC based Sports Medicine Clinic. There he was responsible for the training and supervision of over 115 Exercise Physiologist, Athletic Trainers, and Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as assisting in the overall management of 19 Manhattan based facilities.

Jon received a B.S. in Exercise Physiology in 1993 with a concentration in cardiac rehabilitation from the William Paterson University in Wayne New Jersey, and interned in the Cardiac Rehabilitation center at Chilton Memorial Hospital.

In addition to a National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) CSCS designation Jon also holds the following credentials, (ACSM) American College of Sports Medicine HFI certification,  (FMSC) Functional Movement Screen Certified,  (FMT) Fascial Movement Taping Certified Rock Doc Level 1 & 2,  (KT tape) Whole Body Kinesiology Therapeutic Taping Certification, and is a HEAT Protocol Specialist (Hyper Efficient Anatomical Triggering)

Jon is also an Advisory Board member for the Southern California Health Institute (SOCHi).

Outside of work Jon’s hobbies are custom building and riding Down Hill bikes, playing bass guitar, mogul & cliff skiing, snowboarding, surfing, longboard skateboarding,  ice hockey, bass fishing, and studying wing chun gung fu.

Roger P. Brooking, CSCS

Roger Brooking brings a wealth of education and 14 years of experience that helped make a name for himself as one of the premier performance coaches in London-UK, helping clients and athletes from all walks of life achieve their physical and sports performance goals.

He acquired an undergraduate degree in business & management – as well as a master’s degree in strength and conditioning from St Mary’s university in the United Kingdom. His breadth of scientific knowledge combined with his hands-on work with a broad clientele has given him a solid understanding of the body and the physiological adaptations that occur during training, that help him devise specific and comprehensive programs that will help you yield maximum results.

In his extensive 14-year work experience as a sports coach and personal trainer at the largest sports clubs in London – UK, Roger was responsible for the physical assessment, creation, implementation and monitoring performance training programs. He has been helping many clients achieve their fitness goals. Roger’s clients range from busy professional to amateur or semi-pro athletes as well as some celebrities like movie director Guy Ritchie.

Tate Odell, CSCS, CES

After earning his Bachelors in Exercise and Movement Science from the University of Vermont in 2010, Tate spent three years personal training, teaching group fitness, and working in an out-patient Physical Therapy Clinic as a Physical Therapy Aide.  During that time he really grasped the concepts that bridge the gap between Physical Therapy and Functional Fitness.  It is his goal to help his clients return or continue to participate in the activities they love to do, as he enjoys working with all people, loves a challenge, and understands proper movement mechanics in order to exercise correctly.

Tate is a (NSCA) National Strength & Conditioning Association Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a certified FMS (functional Movement Screen) administrator, and is also a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Outside of work Tate enjoys watching sports, hiking, and many other outdoor activities.

Emil Perrera, CPT, Director of Training

Emil Perera is a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Sports Nutritionist through the IFPA (International Fitness Professionals Association). He also holds a Personal Training Certificate by Future Fitness. Emil brings well over 15 years of one-on-one fitness training experience to BioMechanix. Emil has been a long time training partner of Jon Torerk for many years.

A University of Florida Telecommunications graduate who moved to Los Angeles to work in Production as AP/Production Coordinator, Emil always maintained his focus on fitness. His motto is “Fitness is a lifestyle”, I tell my clients, “Hate me now, love me later”, during their fitness journey with me.  Emil’s training workouts are catered to the individual focusing on his clients strengths and weaknesses utilizing high intensity endurance, strength and power based workouts.

Fernando Molina, CES, CPT

Fernando is an amateur bodybuilder. Certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a corrective Exercise Specialist and Personal Trainer. He is also certified as a Functional Movement Systems (FMS) administrator, and certified by K.T. Tape as a full body therapeutic kinesiology taping specialist. Fernando works wonders with injuries, and many orthopedic issues.

 

 


James Hawthorne, CES, CPT

James is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist who develops custom training programs that address clients’ needs in order to get them to their goals faster. He works hard to make sure his clients enjoy working hard: Nothing makes him happier than helping his clients develop an intrinsic motivation and desire to be healthy and fit. He focuses on correcting the muscle imbalances and biomechanical breakdowns that prevent proper athletic and functional movement, while helping clients lose weight and build strength for life.

James has 20 years experience in strength and resistance training, both as a client and a trainer. He was a nationally ranked distance runner for ten years in distances from the mile to the 10K. He’s currently a competitive marathon runner, weight lifter, triathlete, and open water distance swimmer.

Mel Susanto, CPT

Born and raised in Bali Indonesia, Mel was a very overweight child with little opportunity to exercise. After moving to the states, she was committed to getting in shape. With strict discipline, diet, and a wonderful personal trainer, Mel lost the weight and started competing as a bodybuilder. Now she is ISSA certified and a valuable member to the BioMechanix team. A knowledgeable trainer and lovely person.

Edwin Monroy, Weekend Manager on Duty, NSCA-CPT

Edwin is currenty studying Kinesiology at Santa Monica Community College
and is a National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified
Personal Trainer. He is also a HEAT Protocol Specialist -HPS (Hyper
Efficient Anatomical Triggering), and a BioMechanix Certified Exercise
Specialist (CES).

Simon Bat, BS Exercise Physiology

Simon received his BS in Exercise Physiology from the Arizona State University and is presently preparing to take the NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam. He is furthering his education in Strength & Conditioning under the the tutelage of Jon Torerk and is working closely with the other CSCS and CES staff here at BioMechanix.

As both an instructor and lifelong student in martial arts, he has trained and competed in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, USA amateur boxing, and IKF Muay Thai kickboxing tournaments.

His experience includes training active USA amateur boxers and beginners alike in power training, athletic conditioning, and combat strategy technique in boxing clubs while completing his undergraduate degree. Simon sees fitness as a powerful preventive medicine and a way to discipline one’s life, and self defense as a way to instill confidence and willpower.

 

Yarett Harper, CES, CPT

Born in Los Angeles, Yarett is a certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Academy of Sports Medicine, with 5 years of experience. Before he was training, he was a student Athletic Trainer at College of  the Desert working with NATA Athletic Trainers to assess, prevent and rehabilitate collegiate athlete’s injuries. He’s also a competetive Martial Artist with training in Muay Thai Kickboxing, Freestyle Wrestling, Kodokan Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Western Boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Yarett also models and acts so he understands the demand to stay and be healthy, fit, strong and lean for your next audition or photo shoot!

 

Nate Nickerson, CES, CPT, FNS, Youth and Senior Fitness Specialist

Nate received his NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and Youth and Senior Fitness Specialist, Certifications from Southern California Health Institute (SOCHI). Born and raised in Los Angeles, Nate grew up a Professional Wrestling fan and at the age of 14, attended Ultimate University as it’s youngest student and graduate. Wrestling at Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW) as Lil Nate and The Modern Day Hippie, Nate became a Pro Wrestling Instructor and would go on to become UPW’s Lightweight Champion. Along with wrestling for numerous independent wrestling promotions in the United States, Nate wrestled in Japan numerous times and even South Korea wrestling for U.S. Troops.

At age 22, Nate stepped away from the ring due to a back injury. After recovery, Nate started working out again with a new passion and decided to become a Personal Trainer and attended Southern California Health Institute (SOCHI) in November 2013. Nate worked with clients while studying at SOCHI as part of a “Participate With Nate” program geared toward strength and conditioning, circuit training, weight loss, overall tone and muscle gain. He is furthering his education under the the tutelage of Jon Torerk. Nate brings a fun and positive energy to BioMechanix and believes in training for overall health, fitness, and fun.

Alex Friedman, CPT

Alex is a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Trainer with an emphasis in weight lifting and strength training, both of which he’s been passionate about and active in for more than 10 years.  He comes from a corporate background, but after several years working in operations management, he realized that his true desire lived in the fitness world where he could be active while concurrently helping people.  Since dedicating his life to fitness and a healthy lifestyle, he is more lively and enthusiastic.  Alex’s magnetic personality and high energy help keep his clients motivated; when they’re happy, he’s happy.  His expertise in proper form and technique gives his clients an optimal foundation to work from, regardless of their end goals.  Alex works with each client to customize a dynamic training program geared toward desired results.  Most importantly, Alex wants to share his passion with his clients so they can make a positive change in their lives.
